New Beginnings…

We have added a new member to our little family. She is a Pyrenees sheep dog. I have been wanting an Old English Sheep Dog but they are hard to come by in these parts. Maybe they are not up to dealing with our weather. 🤷

She was very good this morning, despite separation anxiety from her Mom, siblings, and human family. She is not house trained but does her business when I take her outside. She has not been trained at all (she is barely nine weeks old) but is obviously highly intelligent, understands what I want her to do, and ignores me when she has other plans.

She loves to play outside, nap when she is inside, and she ate her lunch with no hesitation. 👍

The only downside so far was when I did my dance workout. She likes to chew on things and apparently when I dance, I am her everything. It was hard to concentrate with a twenty pound pup chewing on my toes, ankles, knees, and butt. When that didn’t get her anywhere, she decided to howl – louder than the music I might add. Finally, she got bored and decided to drag her blanket from one end of the house to the other. It was too adorable but awkward when she would go between my legs. Now that my workout is done, she is exhausted, so sound asleep in the middle of the livingroom floor.

Her ‘pillow’ was Kat’s bed. 😳

  13. Oh my gosh! So cute! My mom had a Pyrenesse she found as a stray. He was amazing. Very loving and also very loyal. Our niece was about 5 at the time and he would let her crawl all over him and he would guard her. He was awesome. He ended up about 135 pounds of just plain goodness. We all loved him dearly and still feel his loss a decade later. What a wonderful addition to your family! 💗

  15. Thank you! I have read a lot of cautionary tales about how loud and stubborn they can be. But they have so many good traits and I believe with most dogs it is all about the raising – or mostly so.

  31. Congratulations with the new member of the house 🙂 Nine week is the ideal moment to start puppy training, the way to a disciplined dog. Maybe a tip, if you do your training, for the dog it looks like play time. As your dog has to learn to be alone for some while, just put her in an (other) safe place where she can not see her. If she starts to bark or cry, you should wait untill she has calmed down before relasing her. If not she learns that barking is the way to get released. I got Golden Retreivers for years and so we did also with our puppies.

  33. Thank you! I had better start trying that today. She was not super good last night, but it was her first night away from her family. My last boss had Golden Retrievers – beautiful, intelligent dogs. 💕

  41. I have read Pyrenees can be either way – I know St Bernards are awful and I think Old English Sheep dogs are as well. Most Our owners don’t mention it. Maybe because they are more bothered by the barking and jumping fences. 🙂
