Daily Food Diary – Day 302 of 365

Today is Day 302 of my Daily Food Diary.  🥳

It is cold, it is WINDY, and my allergies are through the roof.

Molly,  back from her walk with Dan.   If the weather doesn’t improve, he might be on his own tomorrow.

About the most exciting thing around here these days, has been watching the Blue Jays play in the World Series this week.

For the record, I do not follow sports.  I have watched more baseball in the past few days than I have in my lifetime.  While I can’t say I have been enjoying it –  I can see why people get caught up in the hype.   The game that went on for eighteen innings had me so engaged, I had to go to bed before I got too into it.

I was hoping the Blue Jays would win – Canadian pride and all.  🇨🇦 But it just got weird that I was getting so desperate for a win.  🙄🤦

It was a relief to see last night’s game over in the allotted nine innings.

Only a couple of more games and life can return to our less intense normal. 😂🙆

Daily Food Diary – Day 191 of 365

It is 191 Days since I started maintaining and posting my Daily Food Diary! 💓

When I started this diary on January 1st,  my only goal was to identify trouble areas in my diet and make positive adjustments along the way.    Six months in, my diet is still a work in progress.   But, I am finding incredible value in this experience.   🙌

Six years ago, I began blogging here on WordPress/JetPack.  I was gearing up for retirement and thought putting my thoughts in writing would help me find my way from full time employment to making the most of my new reality.   This has also  been an experience  that has paid off in ways I could never have imagined.

Writing has been a part of my life as long as I can remember – the better part of seventy years.    There is something about putting it in writing that brings things into perspective and makes them real.  Writing is my solid, creative expression of what I think, what I believe, what I feel.

Speaking of creative expression, Dan finished our pond yesterday and even found some blue food dye for the water this year. 👍 💞

Our little pond needed a complete remake this year, but it is up and running. 🤗

Daily Food Diary – Day 180 of 365

It is 180 Days since I started posting my Daily Food Diary. 🤗

It is  3 Years and 4 1/2 Months since I started working out,  improving my eating habits, and working on stress management.

Increasing my  strength and stamina (even minimally) was my original goal.    I am reminded of that goal every day and I cannot believe how far I have come.  It is so much more than feeling better,  looking better, or being more comfortable in my own body.   It is my life in general, from working out  six days a week to being capable of doing basic everyday tasks.

It is hard to get excited about taking out the trash, but when I pulled the garbage bag out of the trashcan this weekend – with little to no effort – I was the heavy weight champion! YES 💪 I pulled a few deep rooted weeds out of our front yard. Again, YES 💪 I walked Molly, all by myself, last week. HELL YES! 💪

Anyone can sit in a rocking chair, watching imaginary people living imaginary lives.   I am living my life!  The fact that I CAN never fails to amaze me and it is more than enough to keep me moving forward.

Daily Food Diary – Day 104 of 365

It is  104 days since I started my Daily Food Diary.   🎊   These days are going by a lot quicker than I thought they would, but every day that I  maintain my posting streak, I get a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. 😁

It is easy to maintain any practice once it becomes a habit – especially one that is tucked neatly between other established habits.

I try to have a relatively flexible routine in retirement, but my morning begins with   a set pattern – one that is easy to build on.   Dan and I get up, let Molly out and get her breakfast, let her in, and get our coffee.  I sit down at the computer desk to take my inhalers and vitamins,  and to read our local online newspaper, while Dan turns on the tv to watch the morning news.

This morning as I was flipping past the pages of provincial news and Canadian election news, I was half listening to the American news that Dan was watching.   It occurred to me to wonder if the entire world was obsessed with politics.

Then I began to wonder if anyone reading my blog, thinks I am obsessed with my diet and my chronic lung issues – my asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, and apparently bronchiolitis that recently showed up on a CT scan.

For the record, I am not.  My Daily Food Diary is something I am  doing  to  help me to  manage my lung issues.  I also do aerobics, regular lung clearing and deep breathing exercises, clear my sinuses with a Neti Pot, get outside and walk, meditate, and   get adequate sleep.

That might seem a bit much – but it really is not THAT much, especially since doing these things gives me the ability to forget about my lung issues and live a normal healthy life for the rest of the day.

That is what I am really obsessed about – my life.   Spending time with Dan,  and with Jen and her girls when they stop by for random visits.  Spending time with Molly – brushing her, feeding her, cleaning up after her. Spending time in our yard, cleaning away the winter debris and preparing for spring planting.

Spending time with my little seedlings – the tomatoes and some of the flowers are going hard.  The peppers and herbs are dawdling,  as usual.

Spending time chatting with friends and family and catching up on social media.  Spending time cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and generally nurturing our little home.  Spending time reading, paying bills, and managing our finances.

All in all, I have a good life.  Making the most of it by taking care of my health is not an obsession – it is just time and effort   well spent. 🤗

My life, my world… 🌞
