Daily Food Diary – Day 128 of 365

It has been 128 days since I started my Daily Food Diary.   In 128 days, I have missed zero daily entries,  or posts on Jetpack (WordPress). ๐Ÿ’ƒ

People do not succeed in reaching goals, or in life, by hiding behind excuses.  That is one of life’s basic truths.

That being said, yesterday’s diet goals were a complete miss.  While excuses cannot turn my results into a win, I do have a few to share. ๐Ÿ™‚

* Starting my morning with a medical appointment – a less than stellar one that resulted in three prescriptions (one that may be a permanent addition to my daily routine), a requisition for a chest x-ray and an appointment for a check up in two weeks.  โš•๏ธ

* Having taken my first dose of the antibiotic I received, I was hit by some bizarre side effects.  I felt like I had been punched between my eyes and felt dizzy. ๐Ÿฅด

* Since I felt rather off, I passed on my daily aerobics and walk.  That meant I had zero calories to subtract from the calories that I consumed.  ๐Ÿ˜’

* We took Molly to the vet for a tic treatment and to get one of her ears checked out.ย  While there the vet did her upcoming annual checkup, identified a fungal ear infection and prescribed medication, and provided her with a tic prevention as well as one for worms.ย  Molly came away with a clean bill of health and kudos for being such a big, beautiful, happy, friendly, calm girl.ย  I came away with a $442.00 bill.ย ๐Ÿ™„

* And finally, we got home and I received the sundress I had ordered. Size Small. AND.. It fits perfectly! ๐Ÿ’ƒ ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

So there you have it, a few hits, a celebration, and a miss on my daily diet goals.  I am not terribly upset.  I, am delusional enough to  think days like this help  to keep my body from going into starvation mode. (That will never happen. ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Daily Food Diary – Day 107 of 365

It has been 107 Days since I started tracking and posting my Daily Food Diary.ย  I have learned a lot about my consumption habits and have made a few necessary changes. ๐Ÿ™‚

This month my focus has been on processed sugar and sodium.ย

Becoming aware of where to find processed sugar in the foods that I eat, has helped me to eliminate the bulk of it.ย ย

Some things, like the matrimonial squares and candy coated Easter eggs, were obviously an issue.ย  ย  Things like premade pie crust or back bacon have beenย  more surprising.ย  It is only one gram here, one gram there… but it adds up,  if you are unaware of it.ย ย ย

The thing with processed sugar, beyond the many unhealthy things it does to our bodies,  are the things it does to our relationship with food as a whole.ย  While sugar ramps up our energy in the short term, our appetite comes back with a vengeance and particularly our craving  for MORE processed sugar.ย

I have known forever how processed sugar affects my daily diet.ย ย  Since keeping this daily diary, it has been interesting to see howย MUCH processed sugar affects my daily diet.ย  This is particularly true if I start my day with sugar packed cereals, store bought muffinsย  or breakfast bars, pancakes orย  waffles with syrup, or the like.ย ย  That opens my entire day to bad food choices.

Since starting my Daily Food Diary, I have been relatively shocked by how much sodium I ingest.ย  I knew there was a LOT of sodium in things like potato chips, condiments,  oriental sauces, canned gravy, bacon, ham, and more.ย  There have been surprises –  like the high sodium content in Paratha and back bacon!

I am gradually making changes to how I manage my sodium intake.ย  Cooked vegetables get (salted butter) and pepper – no added salt.ย  Eggs, raw vegetables, soups or stews, etc.ย  get a pinch of salt that I can control –ย NOT straight out of the shaker or grinder hits that I cannot.ย ย  Pan frying is done with olive oil rather than buttered salt.   My husband, who does our shopping, has been bringing home  low sodium or lightly salted options. It all helps!

With sodium it is a process, but one that is progressing with the help of my Daily Food Diary.    The changes I have made are  slight and gradual – but that will help me to make them sustainable in the long run. ๐Ÿ˜Š
