Today is Day 243 of my Daily Food Diary. π
Today is also Labour Day and a stat holiday in Canada.Β

Kudos to those who labour to provide the goods and services that we require. And kudos to those who have in the past, and those who still do, dedicate their lives to ensure the safety, fair wages and benefits, decent working conditions, and fair/honest treatment of those in our workforce.
Being employed in today’s work environment is far from perfect,Β but fortunately improving work standardsΒ is an ongoing process.
Happy Labour Day!
It is eight months since I began posting my Daily Food Diary. As I approach each new month, I struggle to find another monthly focus. This month (September) I have finally decided on calories used.
Every month since February, I have counted my calories consumed and subtracted my calories used (by legit exercise). This month, I am going to highlight all significant calories used – by exercise, housework, yardwork, Petcare, shopping, and the like.
Since being unwell the past few days, I need the motivation to get back to my regular level of activity.Β Let’s see how that goes!
Daily Food Diary – Day 243
Breakfast:
(1) c coffee (2)
(2) Eggs (160)
(2) slices Bacon (170)
(1/2) red tomato (22)
Snacks:
(48) oz water
(1/2) c caramel corn (85)
(1) c ice cream (120)
(2) tbsp chocolate sauce (105)
(10) filberts (88)
Supper:
(1) rotisserie chicken thigh/drumstick (320)
(1)c raw vegetables and – green onions, broccoli, & cucumbers, red radishes, orange carrots, white cauliflower (100)
(1) tbsp Dilly Dip (50)
(1) Lightly salted ripple chips (135)
Total net calories: 1597
Net calorie goal: 1229 – 1597 = 368 over π
* Another day of zero activity to deduct calories. I walked with Dan and Molly this morning. We’ll see if I can burn anymore calories off.
That’s it for today. Take care and have a great day! β€οΈπ

Thatβs a great theme for September, Anne! I seldom calculate my exercise calories into my daily allowance. I find that if weight loss is my goal, eating my exercise calories is detrimental for me, so I just stick with the daily calorie budget and when I exercise, I just consider that a bonus for weight loss. Iβm not saying if thatβs right or wrong β¦ Iβm just saying that works for me when Iβm trying to shed a few lbs. When my goal is to maintain, then I eat the exercise calories. Youβre doing so well with your approach. I hope you get feeling better soon. Your potted portulaca is lovely!

The workers have been taking a steadily smaller slice of the cake in recent years as the rich have been taking far more than their share. It is a tough life.

Thank you, Terry! I could lose a few more pounds but losing them isn’t one of my major goals. This summer, I have been juggling so many issues that affect my health, I have just been trying to do what makes me feel better. (But in August I have lost the birthday pounds I put on in July. π). Have a great rest of your day. ππ

Here, the government takes so much off the workers cheques that it makes for a lot of hard feelings between employers and employees. Not that I blame the government. We have too many special interest groups yipping for more funding, and too many Canadians living unhealthy lifestyles and expecting more and more from healthcare – someone has to pay for it all. Personally I think being retired is the way to go. We have modest pensions, low expenses, affordable taxes, and some private and public discounts to boot. I hope our society gets it together, so our children and grandchildren can be in our place some day.

Thank you, John. I hope so too. I did go for the walk with Dan and Molly this morning and I spent an hour and half out in the yard too. But that’s it for me so far. π₯΄
