Today is Day 279 of my Daily Food Diary! ๐
This morning Dan and I started the day with a walk for Molly. It was the roughest one I have had for a while – and sadly the result of my own doing.
Last night, while the stew was cooking I decided that Happy Hour was in order.ย For some reason, a Rye (whiskey) and Pepsi sounded good.ย Finishing off the can of Pepsi after that seemed even better. ๐คฆ
While the yeast usedย in fermenting any alcohol is a problem for me, the sugar in any soda mix is a much bigger one.ย Pepsi contains 41 grams of sugar in one 355ml can.ย That is huge. Too much for anyone and way too much for anyone with bronchiectasis.
So this morning while I was trying to keep up to Dan and Molly (while they deliberately took it slow for my sake), I struggled.ย Trying to do anything when one is fighting to breathe through an abundance of thick sticky mucus is never easy.ย
I don’t remember when I last had a Rye and Pepsi, but I won’t be having another one any time soon.
Fortunately, having had a hot lemon water since I got back home, I am now feeling much better.ย
Today is an aerobics and treadmill day. By the time I complete those, I will be back on track.ย This afternoon I plan to get some housework done in preparation for our Thanksgivingย supper on Thursday.ย

After I went on a severe but successful four month health overhaul before I turned 30, I had to figure out what foods were gone for good, what ingredients I could substitute, and what I could return to in moderation. Sometimes it was easy. I used to drink full calorie soda pop every day but when I finally felt safe enough to try a cola at a special occasion, it tasted so sweet and syrupy that I literally instinctively spit it out!

A beautiful photo, Dan!! I’m glad that you are feeling better Anne, no Pepsi for you, that stuff seems like its 50/50 water and sugar to me, yuk.

October sunrises in Sask are among the best and Dan caught a good one. Too bad about the pepsi, Anne. Does diet coke/pepsi have the same effect on your breathing?

I will usually go for carbonated water now instead of having soda. It’s funny, I prefer salty to sweet, but since I cut back on both, I can still enjoy something extra sweet. I totally lose my taste for salt. Most of our restaurants douse their fries with salt so I can’t even eat them anymore.

Thank you, Terry. I never drink diet soft drinks. I can’t stand the metallic taste and in my mind they are worse for a body than sugar. (They may have improved over the years?)

What a gorgeous sunrise Dan captured. Sorry about your issues Anne, but I am glad to hear you got better as the morning unfolded. Molly could not look more comfy and at ease. ๐

Kudos to the sunrise catcher.
Luckily I don’t like coke or pepsi at all so I am not tempted.

I seldom drink โanyโ kind of soft drinks, Anne. Maybe an A/W Rootbeer once in a very long while, but thatโs about it. Iโve never been a fan of any of the others โฆ I was just wondering if there was any difference in how they impact your breathing.

I’m not sure. I think mixing the Pepsi with alcohol (yeast) made it worse.

Itโs amazing how much sugar is added to common food and drink products. Sugar is unregulated and out of control as an addictive tease preying on the bodyโs instinct to gravitate toward compounds that are not so abundant in nature. Good post! ๐

Thank you! Sugar, salt, yeast, and palm oil. All are way overused in processed and restaurant foods.
