I’m back.. or at least I am stopping by for a quick check in.
Things have been a bit rough for the past few weeks. I have been waiting for a CAT scan to see how I made out with my three week treatment for pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Since the wait was going on a few weeks now, and I was feeling punkish, I decided to check in with my respirologist. My blood oxygen was low, my blood pressure and pulse were high, and..
After having blood tests and an x-ray done… the infection is obviously alive and well and has been feasting on the iron in my body to the point where I am severely anemic.
I am already on another 21 Day round of Ciprofloxacin. I can take iron supplements and eat iron rich foods so I can feel better and maintain my aerobics and the relatively healthy lifestyle that helps keep my lungs functional … but this also provides nourishment for my infection to thrive.
Or, I can not take iron supplements or eat iron rich foods, lay around like a vegetable and allow this infection to go underground to protect itself from the antibiotics I am taking.
Either way, I have another appointment with my respirologist next Wednesday, I have sputum culture results that have yet to be posted, and I have a CAT scan coming up.
At this point, I am going with the iron supplements and iron rich food because feeling like hell isn’t doing it for me.
All is not terrible… Dan bought me flowers and a nice box of cookies. 💝

Have a great day! 🤗💞
I will stay in touch as I feel up to it and/or have anything noteworthy to share. 😊

Thank you, Gwen. I will try to stay in touch. Some days are better than others but the lack of iron has been making communication difficult. 🫣

it’s so nice to see you getting the comments you get. So encouraging. Johns been with you a long time!! It’s a nasty thing when what could be a cure for a serious ailment you have can potentially be a curse to a different ailment. So happy you can exercise. It’s comforting to have a routine that you enjoy. Love ya sis.

I’m sorry that the pseudomonas is giving you such a rough time, Anne. I’ve missed your posts and was beginning to worry about you. I have a hard time understanding why, if the first round of cipro didn’t work, they’d try it again. Did they do a new culture and sensitivity test?

My respirologist sent me for blood tests, sputum culture, xrays, and said he would call the catscan lab to see if he could get them to put a rush on me. I did the blood and sputum tests, and had the xray done. I got the results for the blood and xrays. Sputum culture results should have been up Sunday but aren’t. (Lost, tossed, who knows). As for the repeat – that is what he does. He is convinced that if something doesn’t work, it is because I didn’t take it or I took it wrong. My health is my #1 priority. I take my medicine – every time, on time, and I read the instructions and follow them. Makes me crazy.

Wow. Maybe it’s time to look for a second opinion.

Dan nags at me to get a referral to a different respirologist. I doubt a change will make any difference and right now I don’t really feel up to dealing with it.
