August 24th – Goals

Over my lifetime,  I have set several health and wellness goals for myself (all to be attained within a specific time period).  Goals such as  – lose 20 pounds in one month 😂, quit smoking tomorrow,  do 20 push-ups (so far my personal best is zero)  … that kind of thing.  No plan or idea of how it was going to happen or how I would reach my goal.

When I began my Health and Fitness Journey four and a half years ago, I went into it with no specific goals.  I just decided that I had to start working out on a regular basis  to build up strength and stamina.  I committed to reaching 30 minutes per day and went from there.  Gradually, my journey included working on my diet and my mental and emotional/spiritual health.  This worked for me.   I have developed a  new and healthier lifestyle.

My personal health, fitness level, and overall quality of life has improved significantly!  (I don’t see the pushups ever happening but who knows. 🤷‍♀️)

Early this year, I decided to set a GOAL. I decided that in 2026 I would take a live, in person aerobics class!

I have never, ever, had any desire to take part in any live, in person fitness class.  My fitness level is uniquely mine and I cannot see myself ever fitting into a one size fits all type of class – or even a  class specifically aimed at people with my particular health and fitness challenges, for that matter.   Actually, any class with live, in person people.   Twelve like minded people, in any room at the same time, is at least six people too many as far as I am concerned.

Anyway…  so far this year, nothing has inspired or prepared me to move towards my 2026 goal.   I do not have a plan.. or a concept of a plan.

So, rather than writing  off the rest of 2026 stressing over a goal that I have no intention of meeting, I have decided to make a commitment to refocus on my physical, mental, and emotional well- being.

1) By working out regularly – with specific efforts on building up stamina on my treadmill and strength by doing aerobics with light weights.

2) By challenging myself mentally – reading, writing, and engaging in mental exercises and games/puzzles.

3) By committing time daily to healing emotionally and spiritually – connecting with nature, meditating, and the like.

No goals.. Just a plan to do better, be better, and Live Better!

That is it for today! Take care and have a great day! 💞 🌞

Daily Food Diary – Day 165 of 365

This is Day 165 of my Daily Food Diary.   It is also Father’s Day – Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there!

AND, It is also the 6th and final day of our stay with son Dan.

Tonight, Dan’s wife Amanda returns from her trip and tomorrow we head home.  It has been nice spending time with Dan and family, but I am obviously not focussed enough on my routine and diet to manage it well on holidays. I need to get home to get back on track.

I took Molly for a good walk yesterday.  Good might not be the best word.   At one point we were walking along the edge of a road,  when Molly bolted through a steep ditch to go check out another dog. That was a bit sketchy, but I managed to stay on my feet and rein her back in, so it ended well enough.

Presently, we are getting some quiet time as Dan and his family went to a Scout wind up for Lucas.   We stayed home to keep an eye on the dogs and start supper.

I made a cabbage ramen salad yesterday and an apple strawberry crisp this morning.
Dan is firing up the grille and starting the prime rib.

Amanda is coming straight home with her friends when they get back.  Their husbands and families will meet them here and we will have one big  supper together, before they go their own way.

Time to try taking Molly for another venture around the neighbourhood.  With any luck, I will get a few photos of the scenery around here for tomorrow’s blog.

Daily Food Diary – Day 106 of 365

This is Day 106 of my Daily Food Diary.   It is also my sister Lorraine’s birthday! 🥳  Although, there are two years and a few months between us, we grew up more as twins and best friends, than sisters.

It is hard to believe that the two little girls who played in a cardboard fort while recovering from chicken pox….  the two teenagers who sang Hey Jude and  such tunes together while doing dishes…  the two young women who learned how to (and how not to) bake buns together… the two young mothers who learned how to mother  together… the two sisters who have shared countless holidays,  visits – camping, hot tub and quadding moments –  throughout the years,  are the same  two elegant old ladies  who share our health news, fitness goals, cooking tips, grandbaby and fur baby photos, jokes and memes TODAY. 😳

Elaine (the mature responsible sister) with Lorraine and I 😁

Life is short and goes by way too fast.   It’s not about looking good or having more  – it is about living well and sharing it with the ones you love.
