Good Saturday morning, because paying attention to what I eat is a seven day a week exercise. ☺️
As always, today’s food diary entry is for yesterday – Friday January 10th. Friday used to be the worst day of the week for my diet. That was my food reward day for making it to the end of the work week. Donut breakfast, fast food lunch (KFC was my favourite), happy hour after work and date night supper out when Dan was off (some unhealthy prepackaged meal when he wasn’t). I am surprised I survived as long as I did with all of that salt, sugar, and yeast.
My diet is still far from perfect, but I am becoming more aware of what I eat and I am making some improvements – specifically snacking less, especially in the evening. It’s not that I don’t want to snack all evening. I just get cringy thinking about writing it all down and posting it for everyone to see. 🙄
Hopefully by the end of this year, those evening snack cravings will be long gone.
Food Diary – Day 10
(1) c coffee
(1) large Baking Powder biscuit Denver sandwich
(3) 8 oz glasses of water
(1) small Bowl BBQ potato chips
(2) c leftover spaghetti with meat sauce and shredded cheese
(2) c raw vegetables – broccoli, red pepper, cucumber, and radishes with Dilly Dip
(12) oz carbonated water
(1) c tea
That’s it for today. Dan is gone to drive his girl Maddy to work and time for me to get my morning aerobics done while he is gone.

Take care and have a great day! 💞🌞

Lovely photos, Anne Marie, time passes much too quickly…

Love the picture of Maddy–she is beautiful, but such a serene presence evident! I just finished reading something recommended by a blog I follow. He does a “recommended reading” on Saturdays, and one caught my attention. It is about the body’s nutritional needs and weight, and I found it very interesting and helpful. It is a recap of credible research on the roles of protein, fat, and carbs, but imminently readable. It is not a “diet”, but rather an explanation of the biochemistry aspects, and I found it enlightening and it made sense, based on my own experiences as well as what we already know. You might enjoy reading it and find it helpful as well. It is called “The Protein Cheat Code” at https://tomowens.substack.com/p/the-protein-cheat-code . I hope you enjoy the weekend!

Thank you, Sue! I appreciate the share and will check it out for sure! Maddy is typically a serene (and happy) presence. Her sister Genie has always been poised, charming, and kind. Maddy adores her and looks to her as a mentor.

I read the article and found it interesting for the most part. I couldn’t take on his diet – mostly because I cannot handle the consistency of shakes and yogurt. Even soft ice cream and whipped cream make me choke and gag.

I would never eat his diet because I don’t want all those processed foods and snacks. To me, it was more about the protein part, and how making fats and carbs so palatable has impacted our eating styles that I found interesting. I have never done shakes, but yogurt is an occasional part of my eating. I pretty much stick to lean meats, simple vegetables, and of course high fiber veggies and things like nuts, oatmeal, etc. I find when I avoid sugar, simple food properly seasoned tastes really good, so I disagree with him that the key is bland boring food. I know each of us has to figure out what works for us, and I personally do not think all those specific keto-based, “healthy” snacks, or shakes as meal replacement are good for us or effective, but if it works for someone else, I guess that is what counts. It is the important combination of protein, healthy fat, and not-processed carbs that seems most effective, but I appreciated the pieces of research he discussed also.

Our diet of choice seems to be pretty similar, but I also appreciated much of the research he noted. Our hospitals here must be all in on the bland food. Their meals are inedible. I wonder if it is because so many patients are overweight to obese. Hospital food used to be nutritious and palatable (many decades ago).

I was in the hospital for a month in 2012. Dan was usually there and would get me something edible, but when he couldn’t be, I would break into tears when I heard the food cart coming. I still cringe at the thought of one bright yellow gelatinous mass that was just disgusting. I have no idea what it was. 😳

I think hospital jello is on every tray.

Nope. It wasn’t jello. It was solid yellow and it was on the dinner plate.
