Today is Thursday and I am still on target for my respiratory care goals for this week. I have been struggling a bit, but I have been completing my aerobic and treadmill workouts and I have been getting outside for a bit of fresh air.
This afternoon, I spent the better part of an hour outside with Molly.Β Β Our temperature is around the thawing point, which is nice enough for January in Saskatchewan, but the wind was rough.

My mission outside today was to test the traction cleats that Dan bought for my boots a few weeks ago. I want to get back to walks with Dan and Molly but our streets and walks are daunting without some help.

These things are amazing!Β I did not slip at all on the solid ice and on the packed snow they were just as great.Β I always had concerns that the cleats would bite into the ice and snow and I would faceplant then and there.Β It’s not like that at all.Β It is just like walking on a rough surface.
I walked around different areas in our yard – stepping up to the backyard and down to the sideyard. I went out the gate to our front walk that slopes down to the city sidewalk and along the sidewalk. Even with the strong wind hitting me, I felt solid, safe and confident.
My only regret is that I was not open to trying them a lot sooner. π€¦ββοΈ
I can’t wait to go hiking some of the city parks.Β We have several beautiful parks in the city, but they have been difficult to enjoy when I was always concerned about staying upright.
That’s it for today.Β Take care and have a great rest of your day! ππ

Yay for the cleats! Enjoy your walks with confidence now, Anne. That’s a lot of thick ice on the sidewalk, wow, an ice chip like you use for ice fishing would clear it nicely.

A good set of spikes is a real boon at this time of year.

Im sure Dan can clear it now that we are heading out of the thawing streak. I cleared up a goid section of it yesterday – snow melted, it was worse than ever today. π€¦ββοΈ

Iβve been hearing about all of that ice and the wind from family there, Anne. It sounds positively treacherous. The winter we couldnβt come south because of covid, I purchased some ice cleats so that I could continue my outdoor power walking. As you say, they work fantastic. The only caution I would give is to never step inside a building with them on, because they can be very slippery when coming indoors. The ones I have at home are YakTrax and their grips are made up of spiral coils, so maybe different kinds react differently indoors. Just thought Iβd mention it anyways.

Hoping the cleats work, you have some nice looking boots. I see Molly has a good place to sit to keep off the ice and snow. You are doing well staying on track with your goals Anne Beautiful flowers.

This morning the wind is rediculous! 75kph with gusts over 90. I dont think the cleats would save me. Thank you for the heads up. I can see it being an issue trying to walk across out garage floor!

Thank you, Mags. Dan got me those boots for the dogpark. He had bought me some nice dress boots with good grip on them, but they were not good for the cold! My biggest issue with these is trying to drive when I wear them. I can’t feel the gas or break pedals.
