Daily Food Diary – Day 234

Today is Day 234 of my Daily Food Diary. 💗🌞

It is three and a half years since I set off on the  Health and Fitness Journey that I am on now.

Three and a half years ago, I was  living a sedentary life with a questionable diet.   I was  struggling with multiple chronic health issues, and  a lack of strength, stamina and energy.

Now,  I am physically active (aerobics, light weights, cardio, walking Molly dog,  and using our treadmill)  an average of 630 minutes a week  – plus doing housework, yard work, and the like.  And.. I am keeping my Daily Food Diary, I have eliminated yeast from my diet, and I have cut back on sugar, salt, and snacking between meals and after supper.

Recently, I ran across something in a  post on Instagram Threads.  “Sobriety is not punishment.  It is freedom.”

I have always lived a fairly sober life, but this rang true for me.

Living a life dedicated to health and fitness, isn’t always easy.   It takes effort and perseverance and sacrifice.  Some days, a lot of days, it feels like punishment.

But it really isn’t. It is the key to living my life on my terms.  It is the key to my  freedom – freedom to be happy and healthy and strong and fit.  💪

Daily Food Diary – Day 87 of 365

It is 87 Days since I started tracking and posting my Daily Food Diary.  It is 30 plus years since I was diagnosed with, and began treatment for, asthma.  It is 5 years since I was diagnosed, and began treatment for, bronchiectasis and COPD.

Over time, I have learned a few things.

First – Medications on their own (other than the antibiotics and oral steroids for acute infections) do little to manage respiratory disease.

Second  – Respiratory disease can be managed with inhalers, exercise, breathing exercises, fresh air, diet, adequate hydration, stress management, and adequate quality sleep.

Third – Management of chronic respiratory disease is a personal responsibility.    For me, this has included a lot of research and a lot of trial and error.

A few days ago, I joined a bronchiectasis group on Facebook.  It has been validation of what I have learned and what I have done to live reasonably well with my respiratory issues.

I have also encountered some surprising information.  A LOT of the posts I have read mention the connection between diet and respiratory health. I have seen general physicians, specialists,  respiratory therapists, and a dietician (regarding general allergies).   None have discussed this connection.  None have mentioned the prevalence of food allergies – specifically a YEAST allergy.  None have advised me to avoid sugar, processed foods, or dairy products.  None have discussed proper hydration.

In Canada, we have a health care crisis. We have a shortage of doctors and healthcare workers.  We have a shortage of health and long-term care facilities.  We have a shortage of  emergency and acute care facilities.

What is really disturbing to me, is that we have a shortage of critical  information being passed on to people who are diagnosed with chronic respiratory issues.  Information that would keep people out of emergency wards and healthcare facilities.  Information and advice that we shouldn’t have to search out on social media. 🤦

October 30th – Metaverse

The news story for today, found here, is all about the new and improved Facebook, ‘Meta’.

For those WordPress readers who were, like me, born before the debut of the fax machine, this leap into the future of social media is no doubt a bit daunting.

From what I understand, the ‘Metaverse’ is a place where we humans will exist as our chosen avatars (cartoon characters of ourselves) and where we can hang out with the avatars of our real life co-workers, family, or friends. We will wear a virtual reality headset, which will enable our avatar to reflect our facial expressions and our real time movements. 😋💃🤸

With ‘Meta’ Facebook we will hold virtual meetings, dance parties, and participate in online games. We will make crafts and play sports. Our entire mission in life will be to have happy, healthy, fit, convivial avatars.

So, that brings us back to Facebook and how they expect to profit from this new Meta version. Their plan is to profit off of merchandise sales. Naturally, much of this ‘merchandise’ will be of the technological type like apps to create and expand our own little Metaverses. But, the big winner will no doubt be the sale of digital clothes that one will buy for our avatar. Seriously, no one wants to be seen out and about in the Metaverse in last year’s stretch pants and t-shirts. We will buy expensive designer outfits and accessories for our lucky little avatars, while we stay at home and slump around in our stretch pants and t-shirts. Why didn’t we think of this ages ago? 🤦

I suppose it was inevitable that we would eventually fade from our livingroom couches to the digital spaces and places that only technology can provide. I am just not sure that I am ready.

Anyway, that is it for today. As always, feel free to comment below. Yay or nay, are you ready to celebrate this latest step in social media?

Take care and have a great day! 💞
