Daily Food Diary – Day 321 of 365

Today is Day 321 of my Daily Food Diary!πŸ€—

I am not sure where this week is going, but it seems to be heading upwards! πŸ–• (well that’s an awkward emoji)

Anyway… Sunday was rough.Β  It was foggy all day and my lungs were not happy.Β  I didn’t walk, didn’t workout, and didn’t sleep that night.

Yesterday, the humidity was lower.  I went for a morning  walk with Dan and Molly.  I did an aerobics workout and spent thirty minutes on the treadmill.   I did some cleaning up around here. And.. I slept like a rock last night.

Today, I got up to rain.  Obviously, the humidity is back up.  We did not walk – partly because of my lungs, mostly because our Molly dog does not like rain.

Nope!

I had a breakfast high in bacon protein.  I used my Aerobika to clear my lungs and I did my aerobics.   πŸ€—

I plan to do light weights this afternoon, spend time on the treadmill, brush Molly dog – followed by swiffering, dusting, and cleaning the filters in our air purifiers.  (Because that’s what I do after brushing Molly. πŸ˜‰)

Just working on getting through this unseasonably humid rainy season.

Daily Food Diary – Day 313 of 365

Today is Day 313 of my Daily Food Diary. πŸ€—

Yesterday was a nice quiet Sunday.  Dan, Molly, and I went for our morning walk around the neighborhood.  The highlight of my afternoon was making a batch of Snickerdoodles – my first ever.

Snickerdoodles

The snickerdoodles didn’t  live up to the hype in my mind, but a little cream cheese icing would probably take them up a notch.

Today we had a plan to go to Prairie Mobile to trade up our cell phones and then head down the strip mall to Chappy’s for lunch.  The day hasn’t gone according to plan – my bad. πŸ™„

I forgot the plan and made a big breakfast of fried leftover potatoes and ham & cheese omelets.   Half way through our walk this morning, I realized neither of us would be up for a restaurant lunch.

Granddaughter Maddy would be so disappointed.Β  She was born with a plan – and a plan is a done deal!

It started innocently enough when she showed up with a plan to go to McDonald’s for lunch, which morphed into a plan to make a list and go shopping for: a new coloring book & crayons, new panties, a new purse, and a balloon on a stick.

Nowadays, she is working on a life plan… education, career, lifestyle – it’s there,  written in black and white but set in stone.Β

And, meanwhile Grandma can’t stick with the plan to go pick out a new phone and have lunch.Β  As much as I need a new phone, I seriously need a new phone case!Β  Both are about eight years old and my case is hanging by a thread (a dirty thread to boot 🀦).

Daily Food Diary – Day 269 of 365

Today is Day 269 of my Daily Food Diary. πŸ’

Yesterday was a pretty good day in the life of.  I did forget to do my weights after my aerobics and never did get back to them but that is okay.  I will do them today, as well as my aerobics and treadmill.

I made the second of two cheesecakes I had planned to make this week.Β  The first one was Blueberry, this one Amaretto, chocolate, and Skorr Bits.

We haven’t tasted it yet, but it looks doable.

Granddaughter Genie dropped by after work to pick up some baking.Β  As usual, we enjoyed the visit and Molly was besides herself.

Today, I am making a large roaster of Smoked Beans to be divided between Jen & girls, Genie & Alec, and us.

It must be fall, I am enjoying my kitchen time. ☺️

Daily Food Diary – Day 175 of 365

It is 175 Days since I started posting my Daily Food Diary.Β  πŸ€—

My Daily Food Diary is part of the Health and Wellness Lifestyle that I adopted three years ago.

This week, summer has (sort of)  returned to Saskatchewan.Β Β  At least,Β Β  it is warm andΒ DRY enough to resume our morning walks.

And Molly is ready to go!

School is winding down and the kids around here are ready for their annual summer break.Β  The schools are feeding into their enthusiasm by taking them on field trips to our neighbourhood park where they have basketball courts, a soccer field, a huge handicap accessible play structure, and an equally huge spray pad.

Part of the kids’ entertainment, is hiking past our front yard where Molly sits in her corner and soaks in all the attention as the kids hike by.

When we take our walk, we pass the park and Molly again becomes the centre of attention for many of the kids.Β   On the best days, like yesterday,Β  some of the kids run up to the fence to interact with her.  πŸ’ž

Whether we are making memories, or trying to preserve them,  Molly takes dog walking to a new level.

Walking is only one part of the healthy active retirement lifestyle that Dan and I are working to build.   Being out in nature, together, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air,  with Molly for ongoing entertainment makes it the best part. ❀️

Daily Food Diary – Day 162 of 365

It is 162 Days since I began posting my Daily Food Diary! 😊

We are at son Dan’s for a few days.Β  Theoretically we are here to help Dan hold down the fort and keep their two sons – Lucas (10) and Cason (6), while Dan’s wife is out of town.Β Β  In reality, Dan has some unexpected time off  so  hasΒ  a handle on everything.  WeΒ  aren’t doing much except enjoying our visit.  Β

Tomorrow, Dan & son Dan are spending the day at a golf tournament so I will get a chance to step up a bit.

I did get my aerobics done yesterday.Β  We also had enough of a break from the smoke that I  got outside for a bit of  fresh air.Β Β  πŸ’ͺ

Daily Food Diary – Day 153 of 365

It is Day 153 since I began posting my Daily Food Diary. πŸ™Œ.Β Β  It is amazing how fast this year is going – one day at a time. πŸ₯³

Yesterday, was a very welcome smoke free day.Β

We were able to take Molly for a short walk over to the dogpark.Β  Her friend Willy was there.Β  They didn’t do a lot of running, but Molly did take one jog across the park when she noticed I was walking the perimeter checking for dog πŸ’©.Β  Willy took a leisurely stroll when he snatched Molly’s water bowl and tried to sneak off with it. πŸ˜‚

Yesterday afternoon, I was finally able to get outside to do some yard and garden work.

My carnation plant is still waiting to go in the front yard flower bed.
But Dan’s Bleeding Heart is continuing to thrive and I got pepper plants in yesterday.
Meanwhile, Molly took another round out of my poor little watering can.

Today isn’t looking too promising.  I was just outside and it appears the smoke is drifting back in.   This  could be a laundry and baking day.

Daily Food Diary – Day 139 of 365

It is 139 Days since I began posting my Daily Food Diary! 😎

I completed my round of antibiotics and Prednisone for my recent bout of bronchitis, but the struggle is real.  This Saskatchewan rainy season that we are caught up in is just killing me. (Or at least annoying the heck out of my compromised lungs).

One positive of being on the aged side, is that we always have past experience to draw from.

Many years ago, I was driving home from the town where my parents lived.Β  I had been there to see my Mother and my Father (who was in the hospital dying after a four and a half year ordeal with sinus cancer).Β  The weather was brutal – white out blizzard conditions with temperatures in the minus 40 range.Β  I was driving a sketchy little sedan with NO working heater.Β  And… I was driving home to a marriage that was way past its best before date.Β

I reached a point where I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to make it.  I thought of my parents, thought of the three kids I would be leaving to fend for themselves.   I cried.  (It was ugly).

Then I saw a roadsign a few yards ahead and I decided that I could make it to that sign.   I made it home (obviously) one sign at a time.   And I learned one of the most invaluable lessons of my life.

Broken down to its smallest denominator I could get through anything.

So yes,  I will gasp and sputter and cough my way through one more cool, rainy, humid day.   I will do my morning aerobics, clear my lungs, and go get my x-ray done.  I will  stop at a greenhouse or two and buy some alyssum and hopefully a rhubarb plant…and I will keep on keeping on –  One step or yard or sign at a time. ⚠️

Tomorrow, hopefully the sun will shine.Β   Regardless, I will be back to celebrate 140 Days of posting my Daily Food Diary. πŸ’œ

Daily Food Diary – Day 138 of 365

It has been 138 Days since I began posting my Daily Food Diary! πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

Yesterday, I blew my nutrition goals again BUT once again, the extra calories were justified.

Yesterday, grandson Rory came over to help clean up our front yard.Β  He did the heavy work of raking up the lawn, but I cleaned up two big flower beds and and I helped him  bag all of his hard work. (Several bags!)

Rory, Molly, and I – wrapping up for the day. I love this photo that Dan took.   It took time to get Molly onboard but I think it turned out so perfect!

It will be a few days before Rory can come back to work up the garden planters for me.  It rained all night and it doesn’t look like we will be seeing any sunshine until next weekend.  It is frustrating, but it will be nice to see the city turn fresh and green.

Molly and I took another solo trip around the neighborhood yesterday, after Rory left.  The humidity makes it harder for me to walk, but hopefully we can keep getting out there this week.

Dan is here and he is fine, but the cold wet weather is affecting his joints so he has been focussed on working in the garage.   I can’t wait for him to finish the new planters he is building.  I think I have enough plants to fill them, but that remains to be seen.

Daily Food Diary – Day 53 of 365

Fifty three days in, three hundred and twelve to go!

As always, I am posting my diary entry for yesterday.   Today, being a Sunday, we just finished our Sunday morning brunch of bacon and eggs.   Sunday brunch has been a thing for us since our first round of grandkids were tots – every second Sunday back in the days when Dan was working 24/7 shifts.

Sunday mornings were a highlight for us, with an opportunity to have time with the grandkids.  For the kids, it was a Sunday morning adventure – generally following a Saturday night sleepover.

Sunday Brunch with Genie, Maddy, & Prim – first annual hat day.  πŸ₯°

Sleepovers and brunch with the grandkids are now a part of the past, but Dan and I continue the tradition.  I cook the bacon (in the oven on cookie sheets) and slice the tomato.  Then I set everything up for Dan to cook the eggs, the toast for himself and the potato patties for me.  The routine hasn’t changed much over the years, but it never gets old. 😊
