Daily Food Diary – Day 78 of 365

I am 78 DAYS in and still showing up every morning to post my Daily Food Diary.  It is a small, simple act,  but it is becoming an important part of starting my day on the right track.  Every morning, I commit  to being accountable for my health and wellness.

It is not just about my physical well-being.  My mental and emotional health, affect my physical health.  My lung issues are triggered by stress, so I  have been focussing on dialing it down.

This cracked me up when it popped up on my Facebook feed the other day.  It’s funny because it’s true. 😂

Stress and anxiety have been an ongoing issue for my entire life.   I have dialed it down A LOT in the past few years, especially since I retired.  But it is still an issue.

I work on it before I go to sleep – listening to soothing music, guided meditations, or inspiring videos.  And I work on it in the morning – by setting my health and wellness as a priority – body, mind, and soul.  Because it doesn’t just happen.  We have to make it happen. 😉

Daily Food Diary – Day 76 of 365

It is 76 Days since I started my Daily Food Diary.  One thing that may, or may not,  be noticeable is that almost everything we eat for meals is homemade and made  from scratch.   That is a matter of personal preference, and done in an effort to avoid yeast, which I cannot tolerate.

That being said, last night we tossed a couple of TV Dinners in the oven after getting home from a walk with Molly.  We were walking a wide clear, level path.  When we came to a section of path that ran parallel to a high ridge of snow and ice, Molly went mountain goat on us.

Dan managed to maintain a hold on Molly’s leash throughout her adventure.  I stayed on the nice clear path.  Regardless, I managed to slip on a miniscule bit of ice and pulled something in my left knee AND I tripped over nothing and twisted my right ankle.  Both are still bothering me a bit today, but I plan to do my aerobics and hopefully head out for another walk.

Daily Food Diary – Day 47 of 365

I am  47 days in on maintaining and posting my Daily Food Diary.  I am still discovering things about myself and what I consume on any given day.

Yesterday,  I had a bowl of potato chips.   Potato chips are one of my biggest weaknesses. 🙄  I learned years ago to take a small bowl of chips and put the bag back in the pantry.   The bowl I use generally holds one recommended serving of chips.  (Ie:  No Name Spicy Barbecue 23 chips = 260 calories or Ruffles Regular 23 chips = 280 calories or Tostitos Hint of Lime 11 large chips = 250 calories.   Yesterday, I chose Lay’s Classic chips. I had 23 chips,  but Lay’s Classic Chips have a recommended serving of 47 chips = 280 calories!  So 23 chips is only 140 calories.  They are no healthier than any other chips – they have more saturated fat and half the sodium of No Name Spicy Barbecue,  but they are a score if one is just looking to  reduce calories.  👍

It is one week until I see the surgeon about having my hernia surgery redone.  My patience is wearing thin.  I have set aside my strength exercises until I get this matter resolved.   I planned to replace these workouts with walks, which is not happening  as long as it is minus forty out.  So, I have been doing my morning aerobic workouts and forgoing my afternoon workouts.  It is frustrating and I am annoyed that I have not taken up something else in the meantime.  I do have options.  I could do step ups? Wall Pilates? Yoga? I could do a lot of things BUT… But what? 🤔

Time to warrior up!

November 16th – Healthy Living

I started my day with a trip to our local pharmacy to get my third Covid shot and my annual flu shot.  I had my pneumonia shot a few weeks ago and just finished a bottle of antibiotics.   Bottom line, I should dodge any nasty bugs that are out and about this winter.  🧖

Everyone has their own level of health and fitness and we all have our own challenges in preserving or improving it.    Hopefully, these ‘words of wisdom’ can inspire us all to make some healthy life choices today.

It’s Go Time

The snow and ice has kept me housebound for a few months now and Dan has been laid off for a month. It is time for us to get active before we turn into Mr. & Mrs. Doughboy.

We have decided to start working out together. Having a workout partner will help to make it fun and hopefully keep us motivated. The plan is for us to take turns leading off on a few exercises for each session. This should afford us plenty of variety and split the struggle of coming up with workout routines.

The challenging part is that we are coming from two totally different places and working out for two totally different reasons. Dan has a long history of playing intense sports (hockey, baseball, racquetball) and working an extremely physical job in the steel industry. I on the other hand, have never even watched sports, much less participated! I have worked in administration and sales, most of the time being desk bound. While we both want to lose some weight, my health issues are respiratory, while Dan’s are circulatory. It is going to be fun, coming up with workout plans that work for both of us!

Day two, down and done!

Falling over tree pose – that’s a thing right?

Stay safe, keep active 🏋️
