November 30th – Letting go and Moving On

Today is November 30th, the final day of my month of WISDOM. This seems like an opportune time to source and share ‘words of wisdom‘ on letting go and moving on. Retirement was not my first go around with dealing with this concept in my life, but it has been a challenging one. I am well into the moving on stage, but there are still times when I can use some wisdom and encouragement. If you are going through a similar situation right now, I hope that these quotes will help to brighten your day and make your current path a little easier.

“When you let go you create space for something better.” – Anonymous

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.” – Tao Te Ching

“Holding on is believing there’s only a past; letting go is knowing there is a future.” – Daphne Rose Kingma

“There are things we never want to let go of, people we never want to leave behind. But, keep in mind that letting go isn’t the end of the world, it’s the beginning of a new life.” – Anonymous

“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

“In the process of letting go you will lose many things from the past, but you will find yourself.” – Deepak Chopra

“You will never get what you truly deserve if you are too attached to the things you are supposed to let go of.” – Anonymous

“The beautiful journey of today can only begin when we learn to let go of yesterday.” – Steve Maraboli

I couldn’t resist closing off today’s post without this video clip. 💞

That’s it for today folks! Wherever you were, wherever you are, wherever you are going, I hope that today you are happy and hopeful. 💞

November 29th Elephants

Elephants have played a recurring part in my life since I scored my first stuffed animal some 65 years ago this Christmas. Today, as one of my final blogs for November, I thought it only fitting that I source and share a few “words of wisdom” on the mighty and marvellous 🐘.

“When you have an elephant by the hind legs and he is trying to run away; it is best to let him run.” – Abraham Lincoln

“Patriarchy is like the elephant in the room that we don’t talk about, but how could it not affect the planet radically when it’s the superstructure of human society.” – Ani Di Franco

“The elephant needs a thousand times more food than an ant but that is not an indication of inequality.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“A true elephant is one who never forgets his Herculean strength…” – Nikhil Parekh

“If anyone wants to know what elephants are like, they are like people only more so.” – Peter Corneille

“He who mounts a wild elephant goes where the elephant goes.” – Randolph Bourne

“If elephants didn’t exist, you couldn’t invent one. They belong to a small group of living things so unlikely they challenge credulity and common sense.” – Lyall Watson

“They say an elephant never forgets. What they don’t tell you is, you will never forget an elephant.” – Bill Murray

That’s it for today, folks. Take care and have a great day. 💞

November 28th – Sunday

This month on my blog I have endeavored to share ‘words of wisdom’. On Sundays, I have tried to keep those words as positive as possible. For this last Sunday of the month, I have sourced out ‘words of wisdom’ on what else, but SUNDAY!

“Sunday is a day to clear the mind of all that has transpired the week before.” – Byron Pulsifier

Have a blessed and beautiful Sunday.”

A Sunday well spent will bring a week of content.”

“Let this Sunday be a day to reflect, a day of respect for all you have been blessed, let your joy be expressed.” – Catherine Pulsifier

Sunday is the perfect day to refuel your soul and be grateful for each and every one of your blessings.

Don’t let thoughts of Monday steal your Sunday.”

Sunday – Take it slow and give your soul a chance to catch up with your body.”

May your Sunday be blessed with love, joy, peace, and happiness.”

That’s it for today folks. Take care and have a wonderful Sunday! 💞

November 27th – Sales

Yesterday was Black Friday, the annual day for consumer sales in the USA, and to a lesser degree in Canada.      Although I am not a shopper, I thought this would be a good time to find and share a few ‘words of wisdom’ on the attractions and detractions of shopping.

“For some, shopping is an art; for others it’s a sport.”   –  Pamela Klaffke

“The quickest way to know a woman is to go shopping with her.”  –  Marcelene Cox   (One of the first things I did with Dan, twenty some years ago,  was  grocery shopping for my three teenagers and myself.  The first time, I spent two hundred and fifty dollars.   Two weeks later, I spent three hundred dollars.    Dan has been doing the bulk of our shopping ever since.  🙄)

“Ever notice there are no clocks in stores?  It’s like casinos; they don’t want you to know how much time you’ve spent dropping your quarters.”   –  Gina Barreca

“Sometimes I get road rage just pushing a shopping cart in a supermarket.” – Unknown  (I don’t know who wrote it but I have seen the people who do it.  Just one of the reasons I avoid shopping.)

“Once again we come to the holiday season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.”  –   Dave Barry

“Those who hate shopping, don’t know how to shop.”  – Unknown  (I used to go shopping with my grandchildren – a lot.    When Maddy was two, she knew how to shop.  I set her down at Walmart one day.  She ran the entire length of the store, pigtails flying, flapping her arms, and  “cock-a-doodle- dooing”.  🤦‍♀️

“Online shopping gives me a reason to live for another 3-5 business days.”  –  Unknown (but hilarious)

Cool Christmas display 🤗

That’s it for today!  Take care and have a great day! 💞

November 26th – Kindness

As we kick off the holiday season, this seems to be a good time to share a few “words of wisdom” about kindness. For many, the holiday season is a time to celebrate and rejoice! For many, the idea of ‘what it should be’ and ‘what it actually is’ makes the holiday season particularly difficult. However, the one thing we can all share in this season is the spirit of kindness.

For those of us who are celebrating and rejoicing, we can share our joy by making a conscious effort to show kindness to others during this festive season. (Sometimes we get so caught up in our own excitement, that it can be a challenge to always think of others) For those of us who are struggling, we can show our kindness by being truly happy for those who have much to celebrate and by being as kind as possible to all. (Sometimes when we are going through a difficult time, it can be difficult to be as considerate of others as we should be). Either way, let us all get into the spirit of kindness this season with these kindly ‘words of wisdom’.

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” – The 14th Dalai Lama

“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” – Scott Adams

“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” – Barbara De Angelis

“Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.” – Anne Herbert

“Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.” – Harold S. Kushner

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” – Aesop

“You can always give something, even if it is just kindness.” – Anne Frank

“Kindness is more than a virtue, it is a source of strength.” – Vivek Murthy

“You cannot do kindness too soon, for you never know how soon will be too late.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” – Jennifer Dukes Lee

That’s it for today, folks. Take care, be kind, and have a great day!

November 25th – Neighbours

Today our friends and family in the USA are celebrating their Thanksgiving. I decided this would be a good day to pay our respects by sharing some ‘words of wisdom’ on neighbours.

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbours, and let every new year find you a better man.” – Benjamin Franklin

“Being a good neighbour is an art which makes life richer.” – Gladys Taber

“Day after day, ordinary people become heroes through extraordinary and selfless actions to help their neighbours.” – Sylvia Mathews Burwell

“We make our friends; we make our enemies; but God makes our next-door neighbour.” – Gilbert (G.K) Chesterton

“If every man would help his neighbour, no man would be without help.” – Bruce Lee

“A good neighbour is a priceless treasure.” – Chinese Proverb

“Someone who loves his neighbour allows him to be as he is, how he was, and as he will be.” – Michel Quoist

“Geography has made us neighbours. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies. Those whom God has so joined together, let no man put asunder.” – John F. Kennedy

Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbours to the south.

Take care! Have a great day making new memories with family and friends and cherishing the memories you carry from years gone by. 💞

November 24th – Smile

With our overcast skies and the chill in the air, this seems to be a perfect day for a few “words of wisdom” on the ever sunny smile.

“Let your smile change the world. Don’t let the world change your smile.” – Will Smith

“The greatest self is a peaceful smile, that always sees the world smiling back.” – Bryant H. mcGill

“if you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love.” – Maya Angelou

“Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” – Mother Theresa

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss

“A gentle word, a kind look, a good- natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles.” – William Hazlitt

“Smile is happiness you’ll find right under your nose.” – Tom Wilson

“A fake smile may fool the crowd, but it will never eases the pain.” – Kelly Brook

That’s it for today! Let’s take care, turn that frown upside down, and SMILE !💞

November 23rd – Healthcare

I am off for another medical test today. I am grateful that throughout my life, I have for the most part been able to avoid medical procedures and surgeries, but time obviously catches up with all of us eventually. While I have healthcare on my mind, I decided this would be an opportune time to share some ‘words of wisdom’ on health, healthcare, and the medical profession.

“If your body’s not right, the rest of your day will go all wrong. Take care of yourself.” – V.L. Allineare

“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s books.” Irish Proverb

“In minds crammed with thoughts, organs clogged with toxins, and bodies stiffened with neglect, there is just not space for anything else. ” – Alison Rose

“He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything.” Arabian Proverb

“Your mind needs exercise just as much as your body does, that’s why I think about jogging every day.” – Unknown

“The person who takes medicine must recover twice, once from the disease and once from the medicine.” – William Osler

“Excuses don’t kill the fat, exercises do.” – Unknown

“Though the doctor’s treated him, let his blood, and gave him medications to drink, he nevertheless recovered.” – Leo Tolstoy – War and Peace

“We’d been assured it wouldn’t be painful, though she might experience ‘discomfort’, a term beloved by the medical profession that seems to be a synonym for agony that isn’t yours.” – Leon Shrivner This one I can relate to! When I was in the hospital a few years ago, I had drainage tubes in my back which were kept covered by a huge bandage, held in place by tape that I was obviously allergic to. Every time, the bandage was changed, the tape took off parts of my skin and much of my soul with it. One clever doctor decided the best way to remove it was to rip it off with one swift pull. I let out a shriek and clung to the ceiling in pain. The doctor looked at me, dazed and confused, and said “That didn’t hurt”. I assured him that it did indeed hurt. 🙄

That’s it for today, folks. Take care and have a great day!

November 22 – Faith

Faith is one of the most powerful gifts we can possess and yet one that we seem to struggle with our entire lives. Personally, I tend to access this power when things are either great in my life or when they are terrible. When things are great, it is relatively easy to have faith. When things are terrible, it takes more effort to have faith but having attained that mindset, the results can be nothing short of miraculous. I have seen the miraculous. Today, I share some ‘words of wisdom’ on faith. I hope they can inspire us all, regardless of our current circumstances.

“Your faith can move mountains and your doubts can create them.” – Unknown

“Faith, it’s all about believing. You don’t know how it will happen. But you know it will.” – Unknown

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

“Let your faith be bigger than your fears.” – Hebrews 13.6

“Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.” – Margaret Shephard

True faith is not a leap into the dark; It’s a leap into the light.” – Eric Metaxas

“Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness.” – Unknown

“That’s the thing about faith. It works.” – Lauren Oliver

That’s it for today, folks! Take care and have a great day.💞

November 21st – Erma Bombeck

Modern technology and social media have brought us easy access to countless ‘Life Coaches’ and ‘Influencers’. Many of them offer an abundance of style and substance. Few, if any of them, offer the wit and wisdom of the original – Erma Bombeck. For those too young to know, or too old to remember, Erma Bombeck was a successful writer, television hostess, newspaper columnist, and advocate for equal rights. She died in 1996 at the age of 69 from Polycystic Kidney Disease. Fortunately, her words live on:

” Cleanliness is not next to Godliness. It isn’t even in the same neighbourhood. No one has ever gotten a religious experience out of removing burnt on cheese from the grill of the toaster oven.” – Erma Bombeck (My husband set a vinyl coated shopping bag filled with butter and milk on a hot burner of our new stove yesterday. It may not have been a religious experience, but I might have mentioned God’s name a couple of times when I was cleaning that up. AD)

“My kids always perceived the bathroom as a place where you wait it out until all the groceries are unloaded from the car.” – Erma Bombeck (I had one sister who used to hide in the bathroom every time we did dishes. If we had cell phones back then, we probably would have missed her teen years completely. AD)

“Some emotions don’t make a lot of noise. It’s hard to hear pride. Caring is real faint – like a heartbeat. And pure love – why some days it’s so quiet, you don’t even know it’s there.” – Erma Bombeck (Beautiful AD)

“I was trampled to death by a man who believed his luggage would be the first piece off. If he were an experienced traveler, he would know that the first piece of luggage belongs to no one. Its just a dummy suitcase to give everyone hope.” – Erma Bombeck (Except for that one time when your husband left you waiting by the carousal with a purse, a laptop, and an overnight case for two minutes. Then your two pieces of oversized luggage were the first to come flying out. AD)

“Once you get a spice in your home, you have it forever. Women never throw out spices. The Egyptions were buried with their spices. I know which one I’m taking with me when I go.” – Erma Bombeck (I am taking my Egyptian spices. AD)

“In two decades I’ve lost a total of 789 pounds. I should be hanging from a charm bracelet. ” – Erma Bombeck (I can so relate. AD)

“I do not participate in any sport with ambulances parked at the bottom of the hill.” – Erma Bombeck (I avoid all of them out of an abundance of caution. AD)

“When your mother asks ‘Do you want a piece of advice?’ it is merely a formality. It doesn’t matter if you answer yes or no. You’re going to get it anyway.” – Erma Bombeck (When my then eighty-five year old mother came to visit my kids and I in our new duplex, she told me that I had arranged the furniture in my bedroom wrong. When I didn’t rectifly the situation, she rearranged the furniture herself. AD)

“Why would anyone steal a shopping cart? It’s like stealing a two year old” – Erma Bombeck (I don’t know why but I thought that was hilarious. AD)

That is it for today, folks. Take care and have a great day! 💞
