Genie Update

Our girl Genie has moved on from Toronto to her last stop in London, Ontario.Β  Eleven more days and she will be back home. πŸ₯°

Genie was supposed to engage in one more special adventure this week – taking a train from Toronto to London. That is not an opportunity that presents itself in Saskatchewan. Unfortunately, being one of the exhibition employees who took a first aid course earlier in the season, she was called up for duty this week. Part of being the First Responder on duty meant staying around until the exhibition tear down was complete and travelling with the other employees in the company buses. I keep forgetting to ask her who would take care of her if she was injured while she is tasked with being the First Responder. That is probably one of those things I don’t really need or want to know. 😯

Genie did manage to send me a few more photos to share while waiting for the buses to arrive….

I am not positive but I think the woman beside Genie worked Guest Services in KiddieLand with her in Toronto. She loved working with her because she was so nice that she reminded her of Grandma. Awww…πŸ’ž
Just a pigeon passing by…
And a little moth stopping for a rest. That ladybug from last week must have given Genie a good review. πŸ™‚
There was a big airshow going on above the exhibition the last few days that they were in Toronto.
Genie said she was bothered by the loud, low flying jets. Since this was the best photo she could get, we will just have to take her word on this one. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

That is it for today. Hopefully I will have more news on how London is going when Genie files her regular Sunday report.

Take care and have a great day! πŸ’žπŸŒž

Canadian Summer

Another Friday! They seem to come around so much faster since I retired. πŸ€” I got up to a chilly +6 degrees celsius this morning but we are looking at another Saskatchewan scorcher by mid afternoon.

Molly will be back chilling in the air conditioning.
While the passing squirrels contemplate a dip in the pool.

Down east in Toronto, Genie has been out and about again. This time she has been checking out the street art. As always, she took the time to take some photos and sent them along to be shared.

Screams motorcycle to me…
I love this sculpture!
Every street should have one.

Genie has found some interesting streets to walk in her travels across Canada this summer. I could see Dan and I wandering in her footsteps some day. Who knows where life will take us when Dan joins me in retirement?

That is it for today. Take care and have a great day! πŸ’žπŸ€—

Mission Complete

Another beautiful sunny day today. This morning it was quite cool, which worked well for my walk with Molly. We made about 4.5 km (almost 3 miles) and she was well behaved for the distance so that was pleasant – and a bit unexpected as she was acting up before we headed out. Anyway, we had a good walk, came home and I did my dance workout, had a cold shower, got dressed up and went out for lunch with Dan, AND stopped to do some shopping on the way home.

I was going to share more of Genie’s photos from the other day but we chatted again last evening and she sent me some new ones, so will jump to these and then jump back later when she starts to slow down.

Genie had a few hours off yesterday morning so she did what any typical eighteen year old would do if they found themself in Toronto with time on their hands. That’s right – she jumped on the nearest public transport and headed off to Bloor Street West on a mission to find a bookstore and a bowl of home made soup. Okay, maybe she is not quite typical. πŸ˜‚

Bloor Street West did not disappoint. She found the BMV bookstore and the anatomy book she was looking for, which she needs for her arts/drawing studies. Then she found a new restaurant, which may or may not be called Wild, and scored a bowl of potato leek soup and a London Fog. They were both sooooo good!

And she took photos….

I am not sure where the artwork fit into her day but I am thinking there was artwork hanging on the back wall of the restaurant.

Genie thoroughly enjoyed her outing. If anyone is heading to Toronto, I have to agree that Bloor Street seems very pretty. If you are looking for books or cats, artwork or homemade soup, this could definitely be an area worth checking out.

That is it for today. Take care and have a great day! πŸ’žπŸ€—

Natural Beauty

Our weather is overcast today and a few degrees cooler than it has been. Other than the adorable GoldenDoodle that Molly got to play with on our walk this morning, our neighbourhood seems to be just a little gloomy.

Fortunately, our Genie is out and about taking in the scenes in Toronto with her new iphone 13 Pro Max. I am not sure how anyone gets that excited about using any new piece of technology, but I am grateful that she sent me plenty of new photos to share.

Today I decided to focus on a few of her nature shots….

I think she is doing great with her new phone but these kids were born into technology. I remember Genie sitting on my knee playing games on our computer, when she was too small to reach the top of the desk on her own. I also remember the day my boss bought me my very first calculator. 🀣

Anyway, that’s it for today. Take care and have a good day! πŸ’žπŸ€—

October 9th – Hockey night in Canada

I could not post an entire month of ‘News & Views’ without devoting at least one day to Canada’s favourite sport and one of Canada’s favourite teams.   According to this news report, Leaf fans have reason to head into the season with some realistic hope for victory this year.

#1 Fan
Also a fanπŸ’ž

I have to admit that I am not much of an expert on any sport, including hockey.Β  When I met Dan, he was playing on a couple of teams. His main one was The Raiders. To this day, most of them stay in touch and get together on occasion. I went to watch a few of their games. I still managed not to learn a lot about hockey, but I did discover that Dan was a decent hockey player! πŸ’

So why, is there hopes for the Leafs this year, despite their previous years of less than stellar performances?

  • The Leafs did well in the regular season last year. It didn’t translate into the finals but it is something to build on.
  • They have a handful of elite top end players.
  • This is the first full season for coach Sheldon Keefe.
  • The season schedule works to their advantage. With the odds in their favour for the first few games it puts momentum on their side.
  • Talented prospects… Nick Ritchie, Michael Bunting, Andrej Kate, and David Kampf

Here is to wishing the Leafs all the best in the coming season. For the fans out there, keep the faith! This could be the year!
