Change of Season

Despite our pool weather temperatures this week, it is obvious that our seasons are changing from summer to fall.

With my natural instinct to hibernate come mid-September, the pitch darkness when I let Molly out at 5:30 A.M. is less than optimal. My efforts to rearrange my schedule to optimize the sunlight that we do have is also proving to be a challenge. And… With everything falling, drying, decaying and generally turning to dust, my lung and sinus issues have been causing me grief. Autumn is not my favourite time of year!

Fortunately, even autumn has it’s redeeming features. Just as I am getting a bit tired of salads and barbecued suppers, we find ourselves in the season of comfort foods. Since we had a steak leftover from Sunday supper (Dan and I decided to share one) and a container of homemade beef broth in the freezer, I whipped up a pot of beef barley soup for supper on Tuesday. So good! I used the regular onions, garden carrots, parsnips, celery and cabbage and even tossed in a few (peeled) fresh San Marzano tomatoes and a couple of fresh hot peppers. 😯

And made a tray of homemade cheese biscuits to go with it!

With any number of soups and stews and casseroles reminiscent of my mother’s kitchen to choose from, I can work up a little enthusiasm for autumn and even for our up and coming Saskatchewan winter. Not a lot, but enough to keep me going on my health and fitness journey. šŸ™‚

I finished my Zumba workout so it’s time to head out with Molly. This could be another dog park day. We have been there three times and Molly does enjoy it. Yesterday we played fetch for a while, but I got tired of going to retrieve the ball so that didn’t last long. šŸ™„

That’s it for today. Take care and have a great day! šŸ’žšŸŒž

  1. I hope you get adjusted to the season change. All the food looks and sounds delicious. You gave me a laugh. Was Molly throwing the ball since you were fetching it? LOL Hope you and Molly have a great walk and weekend.

  2. I second John on the butter bowl! That caught my eye…along with the cheese biscuit and beef barley soup! I am glad Molly is enjoying the park–I drove past our dog park yesterday and there were two big dogs in there having the greatest fun chasing each other and I thought of you and Molly. I hope your sinus/lungs get better soon. Fall helps me, as there is no more pine pollen around here.

  3. Thank you, Mags! I throw the ball. Molly runs after it. Runs back to me without it. Then, I have to go get it. šŸ™„ I’ll tell you, seeing Molly barreling towards me is going to take some getting used to. She can only go so fast in our yard. At the dog park, she can go full tilt!

  4. Thank you! I have no idea where I got the butter dish from or what it is supposed to be. It used to have a glass lid. Molly looks even bigger when she is running towards me at full speed, across the dog park. 😳

  5. That soup looks sooooo good! Soups and crock pot meals are my favorites for sure! Going to make chili sometime in the next few days! Hope your walk went well with Miss Molly! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ¾

  6. I guess Molly just likes a game of running with you throwing and fetching the ball. I can only imagine what it would be like seeing Molly running full speed ahead toward you. I hope she has good breaks.
