Daily Food Diary – Day 284 of 365

Today is Day 284 of my Daily Food Diary! πŸ˜‰

This month (October) I am focusing on how the change of season affects our diet.  So far, I have waffled between summer barbecue, to hearty soups or stews, to light salads, to a full blown Thanksgiving supper.

Today, It is cold and WET!Β  I am not sure there is a meal that is geared to deal with that.Β  We had Denver omelets for breakfast.Β  I am thinking something ‘Light Comfort’ for supper. Whatever that is?

Before the rain started coming down last night, Dan and I did a lot of yard and garden cleanup.Β  Dan worked at packingΒ  away the patio furniture and gazebo coverings.Β  I picked the last of the tomatoes and peppers and pulled out the plants.Β

A number of the tomato plants had oddly stunted root systems, but deeply rooted or not, I got all of them pulled out and into the green bin.Β  I am truly impressed with the strength I have!

Out front, the leaves are finally falling but the grass is only getting greener as the rain continues to fall. πŸ™„

Daily Food Diary – Day 193 of 365

Today is Day 193 of my Daily Food Diary.  Today is also SUNDAY

Being retired, one does not generally dwell on days of the week.  Sundays, or at least Sundays in our household,  have a unique flow to them.

This morning, I slept in until 7:00 AM.  I could have slept longer.  I was up at 3 AM dealing with a coughing fit that refused to pass.  Dan was up early, dealing with Molly. So there was no good reason why I had to get up.  Alas, Molly felt otherwise.

Morning Breath!

I was up at seven, and by eight we were heading out for our morning walk.   Even in a neighbourhood surrounded by major roadways, Sunday morning walks are peaceful.   This morning, we detoured through two parks.  We were surrounded by nature and sunshine. πŸ€—

When we got back home, we whipped up a quick Sunday morning breakfast.  By the time we finished eating, it was time for Dan to head out to pick up granddaughter Maddy to take her to work – another Sunday morning ritual in our lives. πŸ’“

I gave Molly her Sunday pig’s ear.  Being primarily cartilage, it is a great source of collagen for her – and one of her favourite treats.

I headed outdoors to my personal retreat, to write my daily blog and soak in the sounds of Sunday – from the water feature in our pond, to the birds, to the muffled sounds of traffic in a city slowly coming to life.

Daily Food Diary – Day 123 of 365

I am at Day 123 on my Daily Food Diary.Β πŸ€—

May is shaping up to be a beautiful month here in Saskatchewan.Β  It is getting warm enough that Dan and I decided we had better take MollyΒ  for her walk  before breakfast this morning.

Return home!

A few weeks ago, I started using the Lose It! app to track my calories and nutrients that I focus on month to month. (This month it is saturated fats).

At the end of each diary entry, I note Net Calorie Total, net calorie goal, and how many calories I am over and under by.Β  My net calories are my total calories consumed less calories used.Β  Lose It! totals my calories consumed and used and calculates the difference.

I have found that for most calories consumed, the Lose It! app is fairly accurate compared to nutritional labels printed on packages.

For calories used, I generally note my morning aerobics (110 cal.)and our walks with Molly (+/- 100 cal. for 35 to 45 minutes).Β Β

Yesterday, I included the hour and a half that I spent pressure washing our patios. (325 calories)

* Walking with Molly for an hour and a half would earn me < 300 calories used.

Yesterday, I swept our patios, pressure washed them, did some general outdoor cleaning and maintenance, came in to have a Caesar and a snack & then helped Dan make supper.Β  And I was still relatively presentable!

This morning, I walked Molly for half an hour.   Dan shot the photo of us above when  we got back home.   Both of us looked like we were having a medical crisis.  🀦

Something doesn’t add up…

It is 81 days since I began my Daily Food Diary.  This month I have been tracking my protein consumption.  I obviously don’t have any trouble getting enough protein in my diet.  With only  a week to go of this particular exercise, we went all out yesterday.

Steak & Shrimp Supper – we do own real dishes and actual placemats πŸ™„

It is Sunday today – a good day for relaxing and contemplating life.  Dwight, one of my amigos, shared a quotation yesterday that made me think, so I decided to  pass it on today…

Daily Food Diary – Day 67 of 365

It is 67 days since I began tracking everything I consume each day.   This is just another step to living a healthy lifestyle.

Fresh air and exercise are both important to  me as well.  Yesterday, I nailed both with a nice walk along the bike paths in the A. E. Wilson Park on the west side of Regina.  It is a huge park with playgrounds, a toboggan hill, a creek opening up into at least one small lake, open prairie, and miles of well maintained paths for bikers, hikers, and dogs to enjoy.

It was warm enough to take my gloves off, so I took a few photos. You might have to zoom in to see what I was trying to take a picture of.  πŸ™„

Protein Daily Goal: 46-58 grams

Notes:

  1. It has been a few weeks since Dan bought me a cruet for olive oil to keep on the cupboard next to the stove.   We have been using the oil for any pan frying, instead of butter.   It has been a simple and painless cut to a less healthy option.
  2. The baked beans yesterday were amazing.  I found a recipe that we both like.   I did switch out the one cup of tomato juice and five cups of water for two cups of tomato juice and four cups of home made chicken broth.         https://www.food.com/recipe/crock-pot-baked-beans-in-tomato-sauce-341593

That’s it for today. Take care and have a great day! ❀️

August 8th – Feeling It

Dom has never left without leaving me a reason to smile. πŸ˜‚

Sunday afternoon and I am just feeling grateful.

I had my coffee and toast this morning before venturing out into our yard to fill the bird and squirrel feeders.

We are having a major sticky aphid infestation so I washed down the patio furniture and barbecue. Then I fussed over our garden for a while – spreading crushed eggshells for the tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, doling out pails of diluted Miracle Grow, and finally giving everything a good soaking before washing down the birdbath and adding water to the pond.

I came inside to do some laundry and relax with a bit of meditation. I found a nice Nicky Sutton video on You Tube and slowly melted into a nice peaceful place.

Not really me? πŸ™„

By the time Nicky finished doing her thing, I was too relaxed to be terribly motivated so I switched to some soft meditation music and let my mind start to drift.

Before long, I had drifted to a place where I started to think of all that there is to be grateful for. We are so fortunate to be living this life. I cannot imagine how one could not be grateful for any of it. What would be the point in having anything at all, if one could not appreciate it ?

Anyway, here I sat, on a beautiful Sunday morning, just feeling grateful – for my life, my body, my mind, my soul, my husband, my dog, my siblings, my sons, my daughter, and my grandchildren, my memories – so many memories 😳, the trees, the flowers, the fresh vegetables and the green grass, the skies, the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars, clean water and abundant food, our house, our furniture, our vehicles – So many things and everything to be grateful for.

I cannot imagine how there was ever a time, when my mind was so full of things that I wanted and things that I did not want, that I could not feel grateful for all that I had.

I am so grateful for this time that I have now. I am so grateful for this opportunity to appreciate all that I have and all that I have had, in my life. I used to think some people 🀨 were so blessed. I am glad that I now realize that I am one of them. πŸ€—

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you are having a great day and I look forward to seeing you againπŸ’ž
