In a futile effort to wear Molly out during the day, to afford us a good night’s sleep, I try to schedule in some regular playtime with her.
Last night we were awake until 2 or so listening to her walk around the bed, groan loudly, and drop to the floor with a thud. We should have named her ‘RELENTLESS‘. 😂😂😂

When we got our other dogs, I was away most of the days working. When we got Molly, I was excited at the prospect of being fortunate enough to be home to experience her puppy days.
Today I planted fourteen cucumber seeds, did my Zumba, and tried to sit down to drink a glass of water.

We are back home so it is time to get to work around here. There is always plenty of yardwork to do in the spring. This year there is twice as much since I wasn’t in shape to get much accomplished last year. With Molly’s help, I don’t know how much I will get done this year. 🤦
I also started cleaning up the front yard flower bed and thinning out the dandelions in our lawn. I think this year will be all about the WeedNFeed.
I am also trying to keep on top of grooming Molly and taking care of the house. When I was researching Pyrenees pups, there was not much to be found regarding grooming. I read that despite their long, thick hair, grooming is not a serious issue as they only shed much in the spring and their hair is ‘self cleaning’ for the most part. Supposedly, it is a matter of weekly brushing and semi annual baths and they are good to go!
In case you didn’t catch it, the ‘self cleaning’ is the issue here. Everything that Molly sits in, lays in, rolls around in …. works its way into her fur. Then she comes into the house where this ‘self cleaning’ takes place. Grass, tree branches, leaves, dirt, toys, car parts, small tools – you name it – Molly smuggles it into the house, where her fur ‘self cleans’. This morning I found a dead, bald, baby bird in the porch. 😢
Of course, most of what Molly drags in does not shed in the porch. It drops off gradually from one end of the house to the other. I dust and I sweep several times a day. Molly likes to help – which is not terribly helpful.
I took a bit of a break from my daily workouts while we were gone on the weekend, but I started back up yesterday, so that is something else to keep me occupied.

Molly is three months old now (as of the sixteenth). She has tripled in size – at least! She is a firmly entrenched member of our once peaceful household. She dug the trench herself and our household is not nearly as peaceful as it used to be.
I am impressed that we still have really good days. Yesterday wasn’t one of them. She pooped TWICE in the house and peed once. She was also in one of those rambunctious moods where she insists on jumping on me and biting at me. She also managed to toss my supper plate off of the table and onto the floor and yes – my supper was on it. 😧
This morning is starting out way better, but she did come in a while ago with a big tick on her neck. 🙄
Ticks are not the only things Molly brings into our small house from our big yard. She hauls copious amounts of sand, leaves, branches, twigs, rocks, plants, and garbage that blows in from Lord knows where. It is a challenge keeping up with her. In deciding to get a larger dog, that was not something I had even considered. I had no idea how much debris one dog could haul around. 😳
All in all, life with Molly is lots of fun. She is getting really good at playing Nerf Frisbee and better at playing ball. She is relatively quiet, although these dogs have a reputation for becoming big barkers. I will be surprised if Molly goes that way. She is not the skittish, excitable sort – even when the squirrels visit. She did do some serious whining yesterday when I went out front to mow our lawn. She had to stay inside the fence and she let me know she was upset about it.
Anyway, Molly is proving to be a good companion so far and I am looking forward to whatever lies ahead for us. Seems like a keeper! 🤗

Molly, the Pyrenees sheepdog, has been with us for (almost) three weeks now. It has been a fun and occasionally frustrating time. It has also been an amazing learning experience – as much for us, as for our fluffy friend.
Raising a well behaved, manageable dog is the only option when one is dealing with a dog that will soon be able to get the upper paw. Training is an ongoing effort – and one that is, fortunately going fairly well. At almost three months old, Molly is (pretty much) potty trained. She has learned to sit patiently while waiting to be fed. She is a natural at the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ command. She has ACED the ‘stay’ command – staying even when I walk across the yard, out of sight, and back to her. 👍 She understands down, stop, drop it, leave it, bring it, and NO. She doesn’t generally comply – but she understands. 🙄 She is getting better at walking on her leash and doesn’t always chew on it. Sometimes she does, but not ALWAYS. 😉
Molly is shaping up to be a natural sheepdog – not that we have sheep, but she would be a great help if we did. All dogs have their own quirks – but hers are with such purpose. She is always alert to dangerous intruders, but in a very inconspicuous and calm manner.
So far, so good! Every day is an adventure with our Molly as she finds her place in our home and hearts. 🤗💟

I am a little late on my fitness report but I have not slacked off on getting FIT. I am just behind on my report this week.
My dancersizing is still helping me to get into shape. I went for a lung x-ray on Tuesday and while I have not seen my doctor yet, I have seen the report. The permanent damage to my lungs is still there BUT there are no new issues so that is great! If I can stay where I am and keep my asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis under control, I can avoid having to use oxygen so that is huge motivation to get and keep in shape. My weight loss is still slow but the fitter and more active I get, the sooner that will improve. I did wear a pair of jeans this morning that haven’t fit for a year, so YAY progress. 🤗. I also carried a heavy bag of yard waste to the back gate this week. Dan was impressed that I was able to lift it, much less carry it that far. 💪😉
Working out is rather more challenging some (most) days, with Molly growing bigger and getting more active every day. When she stops running between my legs (which is challenging enough) she generally takes a nap in my workout space or starts doing something that requires intervention.

I took Molly in for her Parvo vaccine and initial puppy checkup yesterday. I was a bit concerned about driving there alone because I had no idea how she would be in the Jeep, so asked granddaughter Genie if she had time to come with us. Fortunately she obliged!
First off, Molly was quite happy to have her first visitor. She bonded quite easily with Genie – and had her first opportunity to sit on the sofa. 😲
Everything went great. Molly was fine in the Jeep. She laid down in the back with her head poking through between the front seats. Out of the vehicle, she was quite happy to walk nicely beside Genie on her leash.
Molly weighed in at 10 kilograms (22.4 pounds). She let Genie lift her onto the vet’s table and distract her while she got a complete once over (including getting her temperature taken 😳). Everything checked out fine so she got her vaccine. The only ‘glitch’ is that because of the high risk of Parvo right now, she cannot go out of our yard until she has had the next two booster shots. (8 weeks I think). It isn’t a big deal now, but I was hoping to have her totally used to taking walks around the neighborhood before she got much bigger. At least we have a big yard to practice in.
We came back home. Molly and Genie played and cuddled until Dan came home – because Genie can’t leave without seeing Grandpa and getting her obligatory hug. 💞
Today, Molly has been a little under the weather. She had a bit of ‘intestinal trouble’ this morning, so I gave her a tablespoon of pumpkin which seems to have taken care of things. She is starting to perk up now.

Just a short update today on life with our new pup.
Molly did way better last night! We went to bed with her at 10, she slept until 3:30, I took her outside for a few minutes, and she went right back to her bed and slept until almost 6 this morning. Yay Molly!
Her potty training is going well. She has had two or three piddle accidents in the porch and one in the bedroom. That is ALL. Not bad for a puppy with no housetraining prior to coming here. 😊
She still isn’t into walking on a leash, but Dan went and bought her a harness today which helps. I also watched a You Tube video on leash training and read up on the leash biting issue, so I am ready for another session tomorrow. Gotta love You Tube and Google.
Other than that, Molly is busy chewing on everything and dragging anything she can shake loose (blanket, bath mat, shoes…). Standing on her hind feet she can see, if not reach, anything that gets her attention – and everything gets her attention.
Tomorrow is her first vet checkup and vaccine! That should be fun. Everyone in the vet’s office enjoys meeting a new pup. 💝

After giving it a decent amount of thought, we decided ‘Molly’ was a fitting name for our new Pyrenees.
Things have been going fairly well. She generally comes when called, seems to know she is Molly, and definitely understands ‘No’.
She didn’t have a great night as she was obviously missing her family. She did stop whining long enough to drag Dan’s belt across the house at one o’clock in the morning – thump, thump, thump. And she finally dozed off for a couple of hours at four! 🙄
She likes being brushed – sitting not so much and she is particularly offended at the concept of ‘stay’. She did do much better during my workout and potty training is progressing fairly well.
All in all, not a bad first full day and we see a lot of potential. 🤗
